Crystallized Gold with Quartz
El Álamo district, Baja California, México
This striking gold crystal hails from an exceptionally rare and little-known locality. Its uniqueness is further enhanced by the sharp, well-defined crystallization, a feature seldom observed in gold specimens from Mexico. The front side showcases thick dendritic branches of native gold, intricately overlapping and intersecting with a clear quartz crystal attached to the gold crystal. The reverse side reveals spinel twin crystal formations, with elongated clusters of native gold crystals intergrown. The overall shape is highly aesthetic, with complete crystallization all around. The native gold exhibits a rich, buttery yellow hue and a pleasing luster. This specimen is an outstanding example from its locality.
