Hoppered Crystallized Gold
El Álamo district, Baja California, México
This striking gold crystal hails from a highly uncommon and obscure locality in Mexico. Its distinctiveness stems from its sharply defined crystallization, a feature seldom observed in Mexican gold specimens. On the front face, the crystal exhibits a pronounced hoppered growth pattern, characterized by steep, stepped formations that overlap and intersect in a complex, intricate manner. The reverse side showcases large, flat, lustrous plate-like surfaces, accompanied by clusters of modified gold crystals that are tightly intergrown. The specimen’s overall form is visually appealing, with complete crystallization enveloping all sides. The native gold displays a vivid buttery yellow hue and a strong, reflective luster. This gold crystal serves as an outstanding example of the exceptional mineralogy from its specific origin.
