Crystalline Gold on Oxidized Quartz Matrix
North-Eastern Victoria, Australia (near Rutherglen)
 
This is an older example of a rare gold specimen found in the mid-1980s near the town of Rutherglen, North-Eastern Victoria. The gold is very high in purity and saturation of intense color and luster. The quartz matrix has a heavily oxidized layer on the outside creating a dark brown to light brown appearance. Rutherglen is now a National Park and no prospecting is allowed which also means no new specimen will be available from this locality.
