Crystalline Gold
Plumbago Mine, Sierra County, California

This attractive native gold specimen consists of countless intergrown microcrystals forming a solid, sponge like mass with excellent overall luster. The gold is thick and robust, with short, chunky branches extending in multiple directions and accented by secondary microcrystals that create a bright, gem like sparkle. Under magnification, the specimen reveals an intricate network of crystalline growth with impressive texture, depth, and character. From this historic, now closed mine, this specimen is a fine example of the distinctive crystalline gold produced at the Plumbago Mine.
