Crystalline Sponge Gold on Quartz
Kelsey Mining District, El Dorado County 
This incredible specimen displays complex thick sponge like crystals of native gold with complex crystal clusters. The thick crystalline gold is robust, and a buttery yellow color spread throughout the quartz matrix. Nearly all the sides of the quartz matrix are laced with native gold veins mostly leafy and crystalline while other sections have well developed sponge textured gold crystals. The middle front section composes of hundreds of layered crystals of native gold with leafy habits and display lustrous flat faces. Gold crystals from this California locality are rare and highly collectable and this example is an exceptional specimen.
