Crystallized Gold Nugget
Sixty Mile River, Dawson mining district, Yukon, Canada
Gold crystals from this locality are now rarely found each mining season and this spectacular gold crystal nugget is a great example of this localities potential. The gold specimen formed a tadpole crystal characteristics. Its surfaces still displays many hoppered crystals which are slightly worn by the natural elements. Its thick curved wire structure near its top seems to look like a tadpole which is what they call these types of gold nugget crystals. Its reverse sides display a much more textured and uneven surfaces with more sharply formed hoppered crystals. The surface seen all around the gold specimen is a very thin layer of oxidized iron which adds a highly aesthetic patina. The red oxidized layers is where most of the gold is found as well. This gold specimen represents a great example from this locality.
