Crystallized Gold

Oriental Mine,  Alleghany District, Sierra County, California

This beautiful gold crystal displays incredible crystal habits and geometric shapes with sharp well distinct edges. Upon closer examination we can see the gold surface is peppered with triangular crystals called trigons. This is a rare crystal habit because nature doesn’t produce sharp straight geometric shapes often and this take immense pressure and a controlled cooling environment inside the host rock or quartz cavity. There are secondary leaf crystal clusters that form plates that intersect and even grown into clusters on its reverse side. Its distinct crystals with its incredible luster and saturated color makes this an incredible specimen for its locality.
