Crystallized Gold
Original 16 to 1 Mine, Alleghany Mining District, Sierra County, California, USA
This rare specimen of elegant leaf like crystals displays perfect saturation of metallic golden hue. The crystal habits are flat faced with lustrous crystallized patterns overgrown on top of the flat surfaces. Some areas of the specimen display clustered gold crystals undergrown within each other. The native gold specimen displays some quartz in the matrix which adds to its beauty. The native gold looks large for its weight and this is because of its leaf structure which makes the specimen appears larger then in comparison to its weight. Gold specimens from the 16-1 mine usually don’t display high luster such as this example of a fine gold specimen.
