Crystallized Gold Wire
Placer County, California
This native gold specimen displays a rich concentration of many native gold wire crystals branching out in straight well-defined dendritic habits. This native gold is highly unusual for its locality and is a first of its kind. What adds to its beauty is the gold crystals exhibit good luster and rich saturation of color. The red matrix is limonite which is an iron oxide mineral. The reverse side displays much more intricate curved and overlapping clusters of gold wires. The main crystal displays thick spinel wires similar to a feather and upon closer examination complex striations are visible on each gold wire crystal. This specimen is an incredible example from this locality and a rare mineral for the collector.
