Crystallized Gold with Quartz
Folsom Mining District, California
This gold crystal is an excellent example of how gold naturally forms at this locality. The specimen is made up of a complex cluster of elongated, branching crystals that overlap and intersect with one another. Some crystal faces are flat, ending in bright, lustrous gold plates at their tips. Most of the crystal shapes show rare arcing crystal habits, making this piece especially unusual and distinctive. The gold displays a rich, evenly distributed warm yellow color throughout. On the reverse side, a clean white quartz matrix is tightly held together by the native gold surrounding it. Gold specimens from this locality are rare and seldom available to collectors.
