Crystallized Gold with Quartz Matrix and Pyrite Cubes
Original 16 to 1 Mine, Alleghany Mining District, Sierra County, California, USA
This incredibly rare combination of lustrous flat gold crystals with cubed crystals is scarcely seen in specimens from this mine. The gold crystals are very well crystallized which usually specimens from the 16-1 mine don’t display much luster and have a dull character mostly. Nearly every crystal here displays high luster with chunky flat clusters and some of the native gold crystals being up to 6mm large. This specimen is truly a unique and unusual specimen of native gold leaf with a saturated color. The gold displays a brilliant saturation of metallic golden hue with a large amount of rich native gold on the quartz matrix. The gold is grown in vein systems in the quartz and runs all throughout the matrix. It’s an incredible and rare specimen from a historical mine that restarted a mini gold rush after its discovery.
