Gold Crystal
Belshazzar Mine, Quartzburg Mining District, Boise County, Idaho, USA
This remarkable gold crystal displays exceptional character with intricate crystal habits of short wires interconnected and overlapping. The specimen also developed short leafy crystals with a spongy texture and quite the character. The reverse side displays a cubic crystal of arsenopyrite which is a signature matrix mineral for this locality. Surrounding the arsenopyrite are thick leafy gold crystals with great color and a brilliant luster. Gold specimens from this famous and historical mine are almost never available to the mineral collector. The name Belshazzar was given to the prince of the last king of the Babylonian Empire which is a significant association to the name of this mine.
