Gold Nugget
Sonora, Mexico
This exceptional gold nugget discovered in the arid Sonora Desert is an exceedingly rare mineral specimen that is often inaccessible to collectors. This gold nugget is from the very same deposit the ancient Aztec and Spanish Conquistadors would mine and create currency, ancient jewelry and many other important things. Unearthed by a local prospector in an ancient tertiary gold-bearing channel, its surface exhibits a remarkable luster with smooth faces interspersed with rugged and robust areas. The nugget exhibits small cavities where the original translucent quartz is still intact. The iron rich dark red soil left a very thin natural oxide stain present which also provides impressive aesthetics. The reverse side also displays smooth natural surfaces with a comparable luster and similar smooth features. The gold specimen is a solid, chunky piece with a rich, saturated buttery yellow color.
