Gold Nugget with Worn Octahedron Twin Crystals
Bonanza Creek Mine Claim, Yukon, Canada
This gold nugget still displays visible large crystal growth formations after being worn down in the Bonanza Creek for thousands of years. The specimen shows spinel twin cubed gold crystals running throughout the native gold nugget. The crystals are very large, and some being large, modified octahedron up to 7mm across which is unusually rare. In between areas of crystallization there are visible smaller three-dimensional cubed crystal growth with multiple flat faces forming a rounded cubed structure. There are multiple areas of the gold that still have the original lustrous crystal growth surface which was protected by a thick layer of clay-silt mixture which has been cleaned off to display its true beauty.
