Gold on Quartz

This extraordinary gold nugget, discovered in the arid Sonora Desert, is a highly rare native mineral that is often out of reach for collectors. The specimen originates from the same deposit that the ancient Aztecs and Spanish Conquistadors mined to create currency, jewelry, and other significant commodities. A local prospector unearthed it from an ancient tertiary gold-bearing riverbed. The crystallized gold displays a very vibrant lustrous surface with striations and complex crystallized surface. The gold is surrounded by limonite and white quartz and the gold beautifully displayed in between. The gold crystal is a bright yellow color and is a prime example for its locality.
