Crystallized Gold on Arsenopyrite and Quartz
Timmins Mine
Bristol Township Timmins, Cochrane District Ontario, Canada
This gold specimen is a remarkable and rare example of native gold from the Timmins Mine. The gold formed large plates of extremely lustrous faces and smaller groups of crystalline gold on its sides densely clustered. Amongst the clusters of crystalline gold and large plates are spinel twinned sharp edges crystals branching out highly dendric formations. The saturated buttery yellow color and sharp crystals of the gold make a great contrast with the darker arsenopyrite matrix. The back side of the specimen display a lot more chunky gold crystals with two sharp blades of white quartz sticking out. Specimens from this mine are usually crushed and processed into bullion and not many great pieces are available for collectors.
