Herringbone Gold Crystal
Round Mountain Mine, Nye County, Nevada, USA
This exceptional native gold crystal features dendritic crystals forming a striking spinel-twinned structure. The elongated main crystal terminates in a sharp, complete leaf fern, while smaller branching crystals extend gracefully from the sides, adding depth and complexity to the piece. Much of the specimen exhibits an intricate intergrown crystal pattern commonly known as “herringbone” growth, where the gold crystallized in elongated, V-shaped arrangements resembling a fish skeleton. This highly unusual and rarely seen crystal habit is exceptionally desirable among collectors, and this specimen represents an outstanding example of this rare natural formation.
