Herringbone Gold Crystal
Round Mountain Mine, Nye County, Nevada, USA
This exceptional native gold crystal features a rare spinel-twinned crystal habit composed of stacked cubic gold crystals. The elongated structure terminates in a sharp, fully developed octahedral tip, while smaller branching crystals extend naturally from the sides, adding dimension and complexity. Much of the specimen displays intricate intergrown crystals in a distinctive herringbone pattern, where the gold crystallized into elongated V-shaped formations reminiscent of a fish skeleton. This unusual growth habit is rarely seen in native gold, making this specimen an outstanding and highly collectible example.
