Hoppered Gold Crystal
Last Chance Creek - Yukon, Canada
This rare gold crystal is an exceptional specimen due to its rare crystal habits known as hoppered growth. The native gold also displays areas of luster and flat cubed faces and the crystal is actually a modified elongated cube crystal. We can see this by examining the bottom portion on the specimen as seen in the last photo. The gold formed an octahedral skeleton as a base to later form into a modified cube crystal and after slowly cooling down it formed a hoppered growth towards the end of the gold crystal. It’s an incredibly interesting specimen with multiple gold crystal habits.
