Gold

Badger Mine (Prescott Mine; Prescott Lode claim), Quartzburg, Hornitos Mining District, West Belt, Mariposa County, California

This gold specimen features intricate crystal formations that immediately draw attention. Branching crystals come together to create a highly sculptural and visually striking form. Across the surface, secondary micro-crystals with bright, lustrous faces add a sparkling effect from every angle. Thick, leafy gold plates cover much of the surface and are evenly distributed, giving the specimen a larger appearance than its weight suggests. The gold shows a rich, bright yellow color with excellent luster. In several areas, the crystals intersect and curve, forming a strong three-dimensional structure. Some crystals even loop around to create natural openings within the gold. This specimen is a remarkable example from its locality.
