Sponge Gold Cluster
Manhattan Mine, Manhattan Mining District, Toquima Range, Nye County, Nevada, USA
This natural gold quartz specimen features a complex, layered, sponge-like texture of native gold adorned with sparkling microcrystals that enhance its luster. Such specimens are extremely rare, particularly since the Manhattan Mine has ceased operations. Visible from all angles, the gold crystal clusters exhibit subtle dendritic crystallization and include a small amount of quartz matrix. The specimen is dense and displays a rich, buttery yellow color, distinct from the pale yellow typically found in crystals from this locality. This gold specimen stands out as an outstanding example from the area.
