" The Honeycomb"
Crystallized Gold
Belshazzar Mine, Quartzburg District, Boise County, IdahoThis phenomenal gold specimen stands out as an exceptionally rare and immaculate example for both its locality and for native gold as a species. Aptly nicknamed “Honeycomb,” its intricate crystal habit truly resembles a natural piece of wild honeycomb resting against quartz. The gold crystals are densely interlocked, forming a complex wire architecture of some elongated thick wires that wrap, intersect, and rise into remarkable three-dimensional structure. Each wire crystal displays beautifully textured surfaces with intense luster and a deep, saturated warm-yellow color that radiates under light. The crystallized quartz matrix, shaped into a graceful cavity around the gold, provides a striking contrast with its soft milky white color creating the appearance of a miniature cavern lined with golden crystals. Aesthetically balanced from all angles, the specimen can be displayed on multiple sides while still showcasing its natural brilliance. This highly desirable example from this locality is one that will undoubtedly elevate any advanced mineral collection.
