Wire Gold
Belshazzar Mine, Quartzburg District, Boise County, Idaho
Gold specimens from the Belshazzar Mine are prized for their unusual and highly recognizable crystal habits, rarely seen at other localities. This piece displays an intricate network of wire and pseudowire gold crystals that branch and cluster with natural elegance. Thick, elongated crystals curve gracefully alongside intersecting wire formations, creating a complex and visually dynamic structure. In contrast, finer, much thinner wire crystals are tightly grouped beside the thicker forms. These thinner wires likely represent an earlier stage of growth, offering a compelling glimpse into the specimen’s natural development as the gold later evolved into more robust crystal forms. The gold shows a rich, buttery yellow color with a bright, attractive luster. The gold is beautifully perched on white quartz, providing strong contrast that enhances both the form and color of the gold.
