Wire Gold Cluster
Belshazzar Mine, Quartzburg Mining, Boise County, Idaho
This outstanding native gold specimen features a compact cluster of thick, well-developed crystals, forming a dense and intricately detailed structure. The gold is primarily composed of wire-like formations, with numerous segments entwined and overlapping to create a strikingly complex three-dimensional lattice. These wires have a bold, rugged appearance, many showcasing well defined crystal faces and sharp terminations. Some of the crystals extend outward subtly, contributing to the dynamic geometry of the piece. The entire surface radiates a vivid metallic luster and exhibits the rich, buttery-yellow hue characteristic of exceptionally pure gold. Sourced from the Belshazar Mine in Idaho a locality noted for its scarce production of crystallized gold this specimen exemplifies the elusive wire crystal habit. Among the rarest natural forms of gold crystallization, this habit is found in only a handful of mines worldwide.
